This past week I went to the Kennedy Center to see HAIR!!! It was an amazing show and the tickets were only $20. I even went down to the floor level after the first act to be even closer to the action. And for those who know Hair, you know the actors come into the audience and pull people up on stage after the bows and my friend and I were sure to be some of the first two people up on that stage! It was amazing!
Now you may be wondering how I got tickets to see Hair for only $20...the answer is by being young! The Kennedy Center has a program for people aged 17-25 to buy discounted tickets to most of their shows. It is called Attend and is definitely one of the best deals in the city. I suggest if you come to GW to sign up for the program because it is a great opportunity to be a part of the rich culture of the nation's capital.
This had me thinking, what other student discounts are available in DC? AMC Theaters in Georgetown has a student night every week on Thursdays. Tickets are a few bucks cheaper than normal.
Cleaners in the area give discounts for students who pay with GWorld, some hair salons have student pricing (like a $28 woman's haircut on Mondays!), stores like Tommy Hilfiger (Georgetown) and City Sports also have automatic student discounts! Even museums like the Newseum and the Corcoran Art Gallery have student pricing!
No matter where you go to school you can often get discounts on major purchases like computers at Apple. Sometimes they even throw in a free printer or iPod (after rebate of course, but still!)
There is obviously a lot you can take advantage of if you can find the right deal!
Remember, email me at kwollner@gwu.edu with any questions about anything!!
