GW Adult Volleyball Camps

This past week, my volleyball team held its usual adult volleyball camp (Monday-Friday). This is something that I am pretty sure is unique to GW, I have never heard of another college team hosting camps for adults in their area. These are exactly what they sound like—adults come and we teach them how to play volleyball, much like sports camps for children or high schoolers. Adults come to our camp from all over the D.C, Virginia, and Maryland area and they seem to really enjoy it because we have a lot of people that come to every session we hold. We typically hold them about once a month, either from Monday to Friday 6:30-9:00pm or all day Sunday from 8:00am-7:00pm (with lunch and dinner breaks).

It is actually pretty fun and we get to know a lot of the adult campers, especially the usuals. This past week we had about 20 campers and the most camperss I can remember coming to camp was about 45ish, so they have a pretty good turn out without being overcrowded. These camps are very important because they provide lots of fundraising for our program through camp fees and often the campers donate additional money and join our Sideout Club (members receive special gear/benefits/etc). Another positive outcome is more fans to our home matches. In fact, 4 adult campers from this past week came and cheered us on today at our home spring tournament on campus; one even went to the book store and bought a foam finger to wear.
