Easter at the White House

Yesterday I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Annual White House Easter Egg Roll hosted the President and the First Lady.  With 36,000 visitors throughout the day, I helped escort everyone from the Ellipse to the South Lawn.

This event is one of the only ones held at the White House were you can enter the South Lawn.  It was a great experience to see the White House up close, rather than from a fence about a football field away.  It was also great to see the smiles on the children's faces as the walked to the gate not really knowing what to expect.

The great thing about the Easter Egg Roll this year was that the Obama's wanted to open it up to as many people as possible.  They opened the lottery up to anyone that wanted to enter.  Ticket holders came from all 50 states as well as 5 countries.

Only in DC could I have had this opportunity.  Only at GW would numerous students be willing to get up at 5 in the morning to make a trek to the White House to have  chance to see the President.

With that said, I am still recovering from yesterday and a long school day today.  I have been receiving emails with great questions so keep them coming! I love hearing from you! kwollner@gwu.edu

Again, if you are here for an April Visit Day or any other day and you see me around, please come and say hi!  I will probably have my name tag on if you need reassurance that it is me...hehe.
