Easter and Opening Day Party

This past weekend my family drove out from Milwaukee to DC (a 14 hour drive!!!)  to visit my sister Christie and I. The GW Women's Volleyball team hosted a tournament this past Saturday (pictures and video will be uploaded soon) and since Easter was the next day, they decided to road trip out to see Christie play (as setter!) and celebrate (read: cook) Easter with my roomies, Christie's roommate, and us of course.

We had quite the spread:  ham, veggie caserole (made by yours truly), roasted sweet potatoes, rolls, steamed potatoes, fruit salad, and lamb cake - an Eastern European tradition, a white cake baked in a mold shaped like a lamb then frosted and covered in coconut and given eyes and a nose with jelly beans. I forgot to take pictures, so I found a close approximation:)

Lamb Cake!

Then, after my parents and younger sisters headed back to their hotel to swim and rest, we put away all the Easter food and set up for a baseball party! With Maura, one of the most die-hard Yankee fans you will ever meet, as our roommate, we had to have an Opening Day party! And with the Yankees playing the Red Sox, it was definitely gonna be interesting. Grilled hot dogs, Cracker Jacks, Seven-Layer dip, and Doritos rounded out our baseball spread.

Grilling hot dogs!

Party Time!

Maura shaking her head at her beloved Yankees.

And since we had a few Red Sox fans, naturally a bet was made. Loser had to don the other team's apparel and sing .... Empire State of Mind for the Red Sox to sing and Love that Dirty Water for Maura.

Unfortunately, as the evening drew to a close, Maura was in a Red Sox shirt and hat and belting out some Dropkick Murphys....

At the end of her kareoke turn, she showed her Yankee spirit though!

And then it was only a few hours to the Brewers' Home Opener!
