Oh Hey There!

Hello! :-)

My name is Jennifer Titche, and I'm a sophomore in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences majoring in Systems Engineering with a minor in Computer Science, in the University Honors Program, and planning to do a five-year B.S./M.S. degree in Engineering Management. I guess you could say I'm a bit of an over-achiever.

When I came to GW, I was 100% positive that I wanted to graduate and then go on to be a Foreign Service Officer with the State Department, so I actually started as a freshman in the Elliott School of International Affairs. I was going to major in International Affairs with a triple concentration in International Politics, Latin America, and the Middle East, with a minor in History (see? Told you I'm an over-achiever!) And then one day during finals I woke up and decided I wanted to be an engineer instead. So I transferred! I loved the Elliott School and everything it had to offer, but I also love GW Engineering. And while I do still want to be in the Foreign Service, I've learned that I have plenty of other options as well! Right now I'm thinking maybe human resources or management consulting. Or maybe even higher ed - I could be an admissions director one day!

Speaking of admissions... I spend a lot of time there. I'm half in charge of running our Student Admissions Representative program (our tour guides). You guys already know my co-coordinator, Brandon. I set up all of our classroom and overnight visits, so if you're interested in either shoot me an email at gwvisit@gwu.edu! But I'll also be spending this summer working in the office and giving tours along with fellow bloggers Brandon and Amy.

My growing collection of admissions name tags. :-)

And admissions isn't the only thing I do. I've also had three internships in my time here at GW, the most recent with a start-up company based in Dupont Circle called EmployInsight. I'm our Community Outreach Specialist, which means I spend a lot of time with our social media - namely tweeting and blogging. But I've also been able to learn a ton about start-ups (from being a part of one) and human resources (because our product is a hiring tool). It's been a great experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world! It's a huge part of what got me interested in human resources consulting.

As if that isn't enough, I'm also looking to start a flash mob student organization on campus, because I firmly believe that the world would be better if people sang and danced more often. Though I will admit, progress on that has been a bit slow. And, believe it or not, I have friends as well! The way I see it, if you're getting enough sleep every night in college, you just aren't doing it right. :-)

Finally, congratulations to all of you who were recently admitted! I'm looking forward to meeting many of you at our April Admitted Student Days (April 9th, 13th, 16th, and 23rd - I highly recommend them!), and blogging for/with the rest of you.

Hasta luego!

(...ok, clearly I need to work on this send off thing.)
