More about me, pretty much just my recommendations for things.

I'm in a mood to rave about my favorite books, movies, TV, and music.  Mostly because I don't have a midterm tomorrow and I'm 100% studied out from this week.  So, this is my own brand of thoughtless fun that can be had in my room wearing jammies and listening--yes, listening--to the TV.  (Such a good segué...)

Television:

24, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Modern Family, Psych, Glee (yep, I'm into that...), The Office, Parks & Recreation, Community, 30 Rock, Criminal Minds, Saturday Night Live.  I think that's it.  Additionally, here are my favorite not-so-current shows:  Scrubs--the old one, Arrested Development, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Buffy, Three's Company, I Love Lucy (fave), The Facts of Life, The Nanny, Taxi, Family Ties, The Twilight Zone (original), and plenty of other TV Land favorites that I can't think of at the moment.

Yes, I ree-hee-heally like the boob tube, and I watch when I get a chance, though that rarely happens these days!  Hulu definitely helps.

Movies:

Well I'll start saying that I love all those movie classics, with the glamorous old-Hollywood stars like Gregory Peck and Jimmy Stewart and Humphrey Bogart.  And of course, Hitchcock.  Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, Citizen Kane--I eat that stuff up.  Gone with the Wind is close to my favorite movie of all time, but I don't choose absolute favorites in anything, because I'm not done experiencing life, why finalize something as trivial as that, eh?

Along with Gone with the Wind, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, La Vita É Bella, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Amelie are up there in my top 10 somewhere.  Others include Airplane!, L'auberge Espagnole, Psycho, Vertigo, Aladdin, Mulan, Pocahontas... yeah just about all old Disney movies, Hotel Rwanda, The Shining, Sybil, and anything with Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, or Johnny Depp.

Music:

If you're still reading, and I know you are, you can probably tell that my taste is rather eclectic.  This is especially true for music.  I like just about anything omitting country, death metal, grunge, and emo--though there are exceptions to every rule!

Here are some of my favorite artists/bands, not in exact order but kinda:  Regina Spektor, The Shins, Jason Mraz, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, McFly, Joshua Radin, Billy Joel, Les Fatals Picards, El Canto Del Loco, The Fratellis, Josh Groban, The Doors, The New Pornographers, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, BB Brunes, The Who, Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra & The Rat Pack, Queen, HOVA and Beyoncé obviously, The Clash, Led Zeppelin, Andrea Bocelli, Bell Biv Devoe, K-ci and Jojo, Boyz II Men, Los Campesinos, Showtunes!  Gospel Music!  Protest Songs!  The Decemberists, St. Vincent, Andrew Bird, Foreign Music!  Blue Roses, Joanna Newsom, Sunset Rubdown, The Strokes, Albert Hammond Jr., ummm I just had one in my head but I forgot it, OH:  Ben Folds, Passion Pit, Lil Wayne, I'll end here.  But yeah, I could go on for ages and ages.

OK I CHANGED MY MIND.  I'm gonna write about books next time, and I'll pick my favorites from these obnoxious lists and compile a top 5 in each category of recommendations.  Turns out this just turned into me rattling off everything I like.  Sorry if that's not what you came for!

Oh well, email me!  Complain about this exhausting post, if you'd like: shireens@gwmail.gwu.edu
