Even though there are not any actual shopping malls very close to campus (there are stores of course, but no malls), there are some within the area. Off the top of my head, I know of two and they are both accessible by an easy 10-15 minute metro ride. One is in Ballston and has 4 or 5 levels as well as an extraordinary amount of food places (both actual restaurants and fast food). It even has some fast food places that are very uncommon in this area but are favorites of mine from back home—Panera Bread, Noodles and Company, and Arbys. I couldn’t list all the restaurants and other stores they have, there are too many located in the 4 or 5 floors.
The other mall is located in Pentagon City and has at least 3 floors. Again, I don’t think I could list all the stores and restaurants in it, but they have pretty much all the standard stores you could want. Whenever I’m there, I always go to Johnny Rockets and get a banana milkshake—so good. Maybe it’s just me, but because I grew up with shopping malls within 5 minutes of both my house and my high school and I went there quite often, whenever I am in a mall, I feel comforted or at home in some strange way (especially when I eat at Panera, Arbys, or Noodles). I just went to the Pentagon City Mall over the weekend in case you are wondering where my inspiration for this post came from.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I will go to Pentagon City soon.
